The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean is honoured to renew its support to the 3rd Edition of the International Award “Journalists of the Mediterranean”. The Media plays a fundamental role in involving the citizens in the changes that our society is facing today. Our Assembly is pleased to co-operate with the Association “Terra del Mediterraneo” on this initiative, especially for the attention dedicated to young professionals, who represent the most important basis to build and consolidate a prosperous future and to find, in this event, another opportunity to increase their knowledge in this sector. Referring to the importance of regional cooperation, supported and promoted by PAM through all its endeavors, this competition represents, within this context, a unique opportunity, for journalists from different political, economic, social and cultural backgrounds, to share and exchange opinions and views on the Mediterranean region.

In 2010 the Embassy of the Netherlands, in cooperation with local authorities, held in Bari a series of activities under the common denominator "Holland in Puglia”. The contest developed on the subjects of investigative journalism and attentive to social issues is a competition that has attracted its first edition, my attention because it does not affect the environment in which to act by submitting their work. I'm always very skeptical to want to participate in a competition in the generic sense because it represents a comparison with the competitive spirit that has nothing to do, but we often compare this plan with colleagues who participate. It did not happen in this area where the warm welcome that made it much less competitive. The journalism today needs "windows" that distract from this obstruction sometimes binding the publisher, have been approved in the first edition of a Special Mention award in made me realize that the Land of the Mediterranean can bind this function to release the contents from the end. Journalism that comes from more and more 'incognito to bring to the emergence of increasingly delicate situations that focus always costs dearly.

The award "Journalists of the Mediterranean" has become an important event for Puglia. And over time has acquired depth that goes beyond our region to project beyond the confines of the same and even Italy. An international prize in the true sense. Whether the attention raises. I am sure that the initiative of the Cultural Association "Land of the Mediterranean " organized for the third consecutive year as the International Competition "Journalists of the Mediterranean " is an important contribution to the Mediterranean region.
